On June 28, 1914, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie Chotek, triggered the deadliest war the world had ever known. While historians have long analyzed the events that led to disaster, few realize humanity only narrowly escaped a far deadlier fate.

The year is 2173. The fallout of nuclear war has rendered Earth uninhabitable, save for a few isolated biodomes where humanity lingers in ever-dwindling numbers. Torin Driscoll has been chosen to travel back in time to fill the deathbed of a young Sophie Chotek. Torin’s only qualification is that she looks just like the dead girl she’s replacing. Her mission is to change history and save the world.

Torin’s brother Taggart will be traveling with her, commissioned by their dying mother to keep his sister safe. After training in the arms and arts that will help them on their mission, the pair make the journey only to discover the past and the future are not a disparate as they have been led to believe. The past is fraught with political conspiracies. Future armies vow to continue the fight that brought humanity to its deathbed. And the history they’ve been taught is changing with every move they make.

The Girl Who Started the War to End All Wars, Book One, Part One is part dystopian time travel, part steampunk adventure, part alternate history that morphs into factual history as the characters change the events of recorded time.

This volume is the second of three. Please read volume one before attempting to read this installment of the story.

The Girl Who Started the War to End All Wars Part Two eBook Rachelle McCalla

This is a delightful story! The characters are well described and like able. There is plenty of action, plot twists and rich adventure. A few things the characters do that isn't clarified so its hard to figure out how they learned something or came to certain conclusions, however this does not distract from the story line. This book is for anyone that likes to read historical fiction. Young adults will like the determined lead character. Especially the young ladies. Some of the vocabulary is a bit arcane but there's always a dictionary app one can download to help with those words or terms.

The Girl Who Started the War to End All Wars Part Two eBook Rachelle McCalla Reviews

*I read all three parts of the book before writing the review-highly recommend reading the whole thing! *

This is one of the more ingenuous books that I have read in awhile. Not sure how to classify it because it is part historical fiction, part dystopian, part steam punk, and part time travel, and yet it all works together. The amazing thing is that it is equally interesting and believable in both 1885 Europe and 2100 future. I loved the historical aspect and the way the book plays with the idea of "what if". What if small things had changed in the history as we know it, then how would the world have changed? The focal point of the historical part involves the family and extended relationships of Franz Ferdinand. The alternate realities that happen through the time travels made me want to look into and learn the actual history of the time and compare. I also enjoyed the descriptions of Prague and the surrounding countryside, especially when seen through the eyes of someone who has grown up in a nuclear winter landscape. The book also had a interesting take on the mechanics of time travel-the idea of death creating a rift to walk through, rather than a created time machine or anything.

This is not a "fluff" book-it takes some serious thinking as you read it, especially to figure out all the time travel ins and outs, but it is an enjoyable read if you really want to dig into a storyline and have to think through it as you go. There are so many levels of events, and it is written in such a way that they all seem to be happening simultaneously, even though they span centuries. By the end of the book, I literally could not put it down, I was so drawn into the story.

As a parent,I like that while this book has fight scenes that are exciting and violent at times, that they are also not overly gory or brutal. And while the main character is a girl, her brother gets equal story time, so I can see this being interesting for both genders. Will be sharing it with my kids and encouraging them to read it.
I like history & I like science fiction, and since this book has both, I really liked it. Plus it was affordable.
One of the best books I've ever read! Twisting, turning plot line that will keep you guessing. The characters are unique and memorable. I love the time travel and the eerieness surrounding what makes it possible. Can't wait for book 2!
excellent 2nd part for the story. Really interesting how early European and future technologies are interwoven. Relationships build in some unpredictable ways, keeping the story engrossing.
